Magic by Zato Novo

Mola.

"Using US census data this map looks at how names have grown and waned in popularity in different states since the early 1900s. Creator Brian Lee Yung Rowe points out in a blog post how certain names are broadly used, while others are much more popular in specific geographical areas.

Put a name into the box and choose whether you want to look at male or female names. The states will be highlighted according to the proportion of the babies called that name. We really like this map because it allows you to clearly see the spread of a single name but the colour scale does depend on the basis of each individual one's popularity so be wary of making comparisons"
